Oil Tanned Boots
Remove Gross Debris
- Knock off mud & debris
- Use a natural hair brush
- Lather with saddle soap
- Wipe off soap with clean rag
- Air dry before oiling
Both Kiwi and Angelus make easy to use saddle soaps. Check the supplies page for details on products mentioned here.
Treatment
- Apply oil to leather
- Massage into the pores
- Allow to soak in over night
- Apply additional coat for heavy or dry leather
I prefer Huberd's Shoe Grease for oil boots. It melts with body heat and penetrates the leather for greater protection.
Recovery
- Use a rag dedicated for oil
- Wipe off any excess oil
- Now you & your boots are ready for anything!
Well conditioned oil boots will have a rich luster. Caution: Boots may have residual amounts of oil which may wear off on clothing.
